You can use the ZendeskConnect for Chrome extension to view and manage contact record details right from your Gmail inbox. For example, you can update the contact's name and phone number, update tags, update custom fields, view the contact's activity feed, and add them to the Ignore list. In addition, you'll be able to view the contact's list associations and any automations that they have entered. Any modifications made to a contact's record using the Chrome extension will automatically sync to your ZendeskConnect account.
Note that customers on any plan level can use the ZendeskConnect for Chrome extension to manage contact record details.
See the Getting Started with the ZendeskConnect for Chrome extension help article for additional resources.
In this article:
How to open a contact's record from Gmail
To open a contact's record from your Gmail account, locate any email the contact sent and open it.
The ZendeskConnect Chrome extension will load in the right side panel and display the contact's record details.
View and update high-level contact information
The top of the panel will list the contact's name, account name (Plus, Professional, and Enterprise plans), and phone number.
You can modify the information contained in these fields. To do so, click the field you wish to update then either type or select the new information.
If the contact has any social media profiles, such as Facebook, Linkedin, or Twitter, that will be listed below the phone number field.
View, add, and remove tags
The Tags section is located on the Profile tab of the contact's record in the Chrome extension. You can use this section to view, add, and remove tags from a contact.
To add a tag, click the "Add a tag" field. Start to type the tag name. As you type, we'll suggest existing tags that you can apply to the contact.
If you would like to use one of the suggested tags, click it from the list of options.
To create a new tag, type the tag into the field then click the "Create" button.
To remove a tag from a contact, click the "X" next to the tag.
View and update custom contact fields
Custom contact fields are listed below tags in the Chrome extension. All fields from your account will be listed here. It is not possible to collapse empty fields.
To update any custom field value, locate the field you wish to update for the contact. Click the field and either type or select the field value.
When finished, click outside of the field to save the updated field value.
To clear the value for any custom field, click the field then either click the "X" that appears next to the value or click the "Clear Selection" button.
View Lists and Automations
Lists
You can view which lists the contact is associated with as well as their status for that list. For example, we'll show if a contact has a Subscribed, Unsubscribed, Bounced, or Unconfirmed status for your email list(s).
If this section is blank for a contact, then that means that they were never part of any list.
Note that the Lists section is informational only and it's not possible to subscribe or unsubscribe contacts from any list from the Chrome extension.
Automations
You can view all automations that the contact has entered. This will include automations that the contact is currently in and has completed.
Note that the Automations section is informational only and it's not possible to enter contacts into an automation using the Chrome extension.
View the contact's Activity Feed
The contact's Activity Feed is the same feed that is displayed on the contact's profile page in the web application of your ZendeskConnect account.
To view the Activity Feed from your Gmail account, click the "Activity" tab.
Here you'll see the contact's 25 most recent activities or events that took place in your account. The events are listed in chronological order and will have a time stamp. They will include:
- Lists that the contact subscribed to or unsubscribed from
- Automations they entered
- Automations they completed
- Campaigns that were sent
- Campaigns that they opened
- Campaign link clicks
- Site tracking data
- Event tracking data
Add the contact to the Ignore list
One of the options with using the ZendeskConnect for Chrome extension is that you can add a contact directly to an Ignore List. This is not the same as adding a contact to your Exclusion List.
Once a contact is on the Ignore List, then:
- Email tracking will become disabled for emails sent from your Gmail account
- You will not be able to add that contact to any Deals pipelines using the Chrome extension
- Information located in the right side panel will not sync
To add a contact to the Ignore List, click the plus symbol (+) located on the top right of the side panel. Then click the "Ignore Contact" option.
The contact will be added to the Ignore List. To remove them, click the "Remove" option located on the right side panel.
